Denim portrait

This artwork carries deep sentimental value for me. After my dad passed, I had to go through his closet and pack up his clothes, many of which were denim. I couldn’t keep everything, but I held onto a few pieces I remember him wearing often. My dad was always fascinated by the projects I worked on, so I wanted to create something he would have been thrilled to see.

Inspired by Ian Berry’s art style, which transforms upcycled denim into striking “paintings,” I decided to make a large-scale portrait of my dad using the denim I saved. In doing so, I was able to give these pieces of his a greater purpose.

This portrait is not just about memory, it’s about connection. The composition shows half of each of our faces on opposite sides, symbolizing balance, equality, and the dynamic of our relationship.
